Medieval Food
The people during the Middle Ages enjoyed to drink. The water was often very unclean. The poor drank ale, cider, or mead. The rich drank a variety of wines. Honey was used to make a sweet alcoholic drink. This drink was called mead. Mead was drank by all classes not just poor.
During the Middle Ages they had a diet called a staple diet. It consisted of bread, meat, and fish. The upper class ate a different kind of bread than the lower class called manchet. Manchet was made of wheat flour. The poor ate rye and barley bread. The upper class were the only ones allowed to hunt certain animals. They hunted animals like deer, boars, hares, and rabbits. If a lower class had caught one of these animals it could result in their death or having their hands cut off.
