Medieval Castles
Castles are where the Lords and Nobles lived. They were usually built high on a hill. They had a better view if invaders were coming from a high point of view. Castles have a lot of defensive traps for invaders to stay out. The gatehouse is one of the most defensive parts in the castle. It contained tons of traps like murder holes and magnificent chambers for important guests.
Murder holes were a hole above a passage way to drop stuff onto people. There were not just murder holes in the gatehouse in a different part of the gatehouse lived the soldiers. The only soldiers that lived in the gatehouse were the ones who guarded the castle. Another defensive trap is arrow loop. Arrow loops were thin slits in a stone wall. You could shoot intruders through the slits. Around the outside of the castle there were ditches full of water called moats. The moats made it harder for invaders to enter the castle.
